Crema--Italian Custard Cream

I made dessert tonight in hopes of redeeming my cooking self-esteem after my disastrous gnocchi. This dessert seemed simple enough, and it required ingredients that I already had on hand.
I wish that this custard would have set up a bit better than it did. Of course, it would help if I had read the recipe all the way to the end--maybe putting the pan with the cream into a bowl of ice water and stirring for a bit longer until the cream cooled off would have helped it set better (the recipe did say to do that). (I am guilty of starting a recipe without having read it all the way through--I do this often, much to my husband's annoyance!)
I'm glad that tomorrow is a new day! :)
