My Family

One thing I love about cooking and being in the kitchen is that I am never alone.  True, sometimes solitude is nice, but I love that my children like to "cook" with me and that my husband loves to eat!

Let me introduce you to my family.....

This is my husband, Mike, usually referred to in my blogosphere as "El Hub."  When it comes to the kitchen, "I (Mike) do not belong in the kitchen."  However, the man loves to eat, and he is the only one who can make fried eggs sunny side up.  While cooking may not be his "thing," he is very willing to help me in whatever way he can.  I love that he will spend time with me in the kitchen!  I really love that he is enthusiastic about trying new things to eat, and embraces my meals served with new ingredients and flavors.

This is Bennett, my 7-year-old.  He loves helping in the kitchen, and I am working hard to give him some more responsibility in this area.  He is usually very eager to get his hands in the ingredients and cook away.  When I asked him if he wanted to spent portions of his summer vacation in the kitchen cooking with me, he gave me a resounding, "Definitely!!"  I am beginning to train him to "think" like a cook and start to think ahead to the next step in meal preparation.  When I am not in a rush, the time spent one-on-one with Bennett is delightful!

Meet Delancey, my little mini-me.  While she looks the least like me of my 3 kiddos, she and I are indeed kindred spirits--we both love all things girly!  At 2 1/2 years old, there isn't a whole lot that she can do in the kitchen yet, she is usually very eager to get the cloth napkins out of the drawer and place them by each place setting on the table.  She has a little play kitchen in the room next to the kitchen, and sometimes she will show up to "help" me with a Little Tykes cooking utensil.

This is Brecken, my baby.  No cooking or setting the table yet for him, but this little munchkin loves to eat!  At 8 months old, he decided the best food for himself was finger food--the more he can feed himself, the happier he is!
